About the Program

​​Founded in 2022, the Pathfinder Mentoring Program is a powerful initiative dedicated to guiding and empowering young individuals as they embark on their college journeys.

​

What We Do

Through a dynamic  peer-to-peer mentoring platform with Alumni, we foster meaningful connections where students share experiences, support one another, and cultivate lasting, empowering relationships.

​

Core Supporters

Our Peer Leader Mentors and Alumni Mentors are passionate and dedicated, committed to inspiring, activating, and equipping the next generation with the confidence and resilience needed to thrive. By nurturing leadership and fostering a culture of community, we enable students to rise above challenges and become changemakers in their own lives and beyond.

Wellness Education

Aligned with our mission, the program includes Wellness activities such as hiking, and workshops (financial empowerment),to offer students  learning experiences—enhancing their personal growth, well-being, and leadership skills.

Impact on Future Leaders

These intentional mentorship activities are critical in shaping future leaders. We provide students with the tools, knowledge, and support networks necessary to drive meaningful change in their communities and beyond.

How to get involved?

General Criteria for  Pathfinder Alumni Youth Volunteers

​

FHS Alumni Youth Volunteers should demonstrate a strong passion for creating change, supporting underserved youth, and uplifting the diverse communities of South Los Angeles. Volunteers must be eager to learn, collaborate, and actively engage in professional development training and team-building activities to enhance their leadership and service impact.

​

Volunteers are expected to maintain clear and consistent communication with fellow team members and board members to ensure the timely scheduling of events and adherence to deadlines. Additionally, all volunteers must uphold the policies and procedures of the Fremont Alumni Foundation, demonstrating professionalism, accountability, and a commitment to the organization’s mission.

Pathfinder Alumni Mentor Eligibility

To serve as a Pathfinder Alumni Mentor, one must:

 

Eligibility:

  • Be an alumnus of John C. Fremont High School, or a current college student entering their second year.

  • Enroll and actively participate in the Mentoring Program.

  • Participate in the  Summer for Self-Care Project to promote well-rounded support for mentees.

  • Expectations & Responsibilities:

  • Complete a formal application, interview, and background screening, ensuring safety and program readiness.

  • Undertake pre-match orientation and training, equipping mentors with tools for effective and ethical support.

  • Commit to a minimum of 2 hours per month, balanced with reliability and availability.

  • Provide guidance, encouragement, and reflection, modeled in alignment with California’s mentorship standards.

  • Keep activity logs and engage in feedback sessions to support program improvement.

  • Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and integrity, serving as a positive role model.

  • Collaborate within the mentor community and remain open to ongoing learning and program development.

Pathfinder Alumni Youth Mentee Eligibility & Expectations

Eligibility:

​

  • Be a recent graduate of John C. Fremont High School.

  • Be enrolled in a work program, community college, private college, trade school, or university.

  • Actively engage in the Pathfinder Mentor Program to foster personal development, leadership, and community involvement.

Expectations & Support:

  • Complete orientation and training, preparing for a purpose-driven mentoring relationship.

  • Submit a mentee application and participate in the screening process—including an initial meeting or interview.

  • Commit to consistent engagement: attend meetings, workshops, and stay in touch with your mentor.

  • Collaborate with your mentor to set and track personal, academic, or career goals.

  • Provide feedback through surveys or exit sessions to help improve the program.

  • Participate in a thoughtful closure, ensuring your progress is recognized and next steps are identified.
